About the Author
JIM HARDY has developed a reputation for delivering clear, simple ways to understand this complex game. He was an All-American golfer at Oklahoma State and went on to play the PGA TOUR before focusing on his passion for golf instruction. As a mentor to many TOUR players, Jim has been fixing the swings of amateurs and professionals since 1977. His coaching has produced four PGA TOUR Comeback Players of the Year. Hardy is considered one of America s 50 Greatest Teachers by Golf Digest and ranked in the Top 100 Teachers list of Golf Magazine. In 2007, he was voted PGA National Teacher of the Year, in 2011 he was inducted into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame, and most recently, in 2015, was inducted into the prestigious World Golf Teachers Hall of Fame.

Mixed thoughts on the book. 1) the information in the book seems really spot-on. I am not aware of another golf instruction book that has this much detail. Probably the most informative of all of Jim Hardy's books, and all of them are quite good. 2) the images are very good overall, very informative, very helpful 3) the quality of the writing and editing of the text is rather poor overall. Several sentences, and there are lots of them, appear to have missing words and/or punctuation that makes them very difficult to understand. Given that this is an instructional/informational book, this last issue is a pretty disappointing.

Bottom line: buy the book, very good overall, but be prepared to edit the text to try to figure out what a number of key sentences mean.

The Definitive Resource on the Most Important Part of the Full Swing

The information in this landmark book on improving impact and shotmaking consistency is golden. It will help you determine which type of release is right for your swing and teach you exactly how to execute it. The book is a landmark because no one has previously done what Jim Hardy does here: identify and thoroughly explain the two fundamental ways of releasing a club to produce correct, repetitive impact. The photo illustrations are outstanding, as are the narrative explanations. Carefully chosen drills will aid you in making changes appropriate for your swing. This fine volume is testament to the fact that Jim Hardy is the perhaps the greatest scholar of the golf swing of all time.

Note on Kindle version (November 17, 2016): The Kindle version has been revised to a REFLOWABLE layout, which enables text resizing and text highlighting. The original format that readers complained about had a fixed format to reflect the exact style and feel of the physical book. I anticipate that readers accustomed to Kindle layouts that enable text resizing and highlighting will like the revised version.

Great Content - Kindle Version very poor

The content on RIT is just great. I've been a one-plane guy for 6 years and this is the first time it all came together. The wrist movement graphic was super, it cleared up the terminology of flexion/extension pronation and supination and the drills are right on target. The concept of the role of the right arm moving in a throwing motion while the left arm moved down linked the ideas of the rotary (merry-go-round) motion of the right arm to the vertical (Ferris-wheel) motion of the left arm. It was easy to hit shots that were difficult before.

In my view, this is the best Jim Hardy has done yet.

The downside is that the kindle product I bought was terrible - seems to have since been pulled from Amazon. Looks like it was scanned and not done very well. There is no real text - everything is done as a jpeg file so there is no search or changing font size. Good thing the content was so useful. Hope there will be an update on the kindle edition that works

The Seminal Work on Mind Control.

This book may date from 1961, but it continues to be an essential work for understanding the techniques of mind control that continue to be utilized by authoritarian governments as well as by destructive cults. Those who have been watching with horror the crackdown by the Communist Chinese government on the peaceful falun gong religious sect will recognize in Lifton's book the same tyrannical mindset as it operated at its origins. Obviously, not much has changed in 40 years. Especially worthwhile in this book is the description of the eight conditions underlying any thought reform program. "Milieu control", for example, is the imposition of an entire controlling environment that permits a person no unapproved interactions, no free time, and no access to unapproved information. "Doctrine over person" is a state of affairs where, in any situation where ideology is contradicted by real experience, the ideology, not the experience, is believed. This can lead to a situation where a fictitious construct -- "the People" -- is defined differently from that of real people, who are not considered to be "real" people if their experience differs from ideology. Lifton calls this viewpoint "dispensing of existence." Cult survivors such as myself (a former 10-year member of Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church) will recognize these and the other conditions Lifton enumerates.

Refutation of Prior Review - This Is An Excellent Book

Upon seeing the review below, from the reader in Rio de Janeiro, I had to write my own thoughts and share them. As a former cult member myself and current volunteer in anti-cult activism, I can personally attest that what Dr. Lifton wrote about concerning destructive groups and mind control absolutely exists. The famous chapter 22, where Dr. Lifton lays out the famous "eight criteria", to me isn't a chapter in a book but how my adolescense was in this particular group. It's true; it exists. The reader from Rio said that mind control was a failure; well, ultimately, yes it is, total control over a person's mind isn't 100%, and won't last forever. However, individuals and destructive groups (cults) know how to exploit mind control techniques to allow them control over a person's thoughts and actions long enough to get that person to do what they want, and often when people leave cults they suffer psychological damages for years afterward. This is also not about West superior over East; Dr. Lifton also chronicled how many Chinese were hurt by the mind control imposed by the Communists. All in all, this is a terrific book about mind control and its damaging effects; I highly recommend it.

"I would take it a step further and say that it might be as good or even better than being there in the OR, watching the surgeon perform each procedure. Why? Because the videos are well edited, the view and the lighting are excellent, the procedures are accelerated through the repetitive steps such as suturing and cautering, the important points are highlighted, and the voice-over is clear, unhurried and undistracted by the actual operation."

Ruth Fishel, M.Ed., is an author, national retreat and workshop leader and meditation teacher. Among the many books she has authored are; Time for Joy, The Journey Within, and Time for Thoughtfulness. Ruth has also developed SpiritLifters, a line of inspirational greeting cards, which draw on the messages in her books. Currently she is a director of Cape Cod's Spirithaven, Inc., which she co-founded in 1989.

Learn to meditate

On the surface, this book is about recovering from addictive substances. While it is very useful in that context, it is also a wonderful book that teaches you a simple yet powerful meditation practice. This book would be excellent for anyone wanting to learn how to meditate. It is even more powerful for anyone with issues around addictions.

I really like how the past and the present were woven in ...

can't wait to read the second book! I really like how the past and the present were woven in together; it brought out why Miranda was the way she is and was revealed slowly instead of all at once giving the book at good pace. Also in the flashbacks, some of Jason was revealed also.

The circumstances that brought them back together was tragic, but if she hadn't run the second time, Miranda and Jason wouldn't have found each other. As it came out later in the book, Jason is a runner also. I do wish there had been more on how they found their "uncle". I really wanted to know because I became invested in their story, past and present.

Emma Clark did a fantastic job on the narration. She infused each character with their own distinct personality, didn't go too fast or too slow.

I highly recommend this book.

This novel flipped from present time to the past. I enjoyed seeing a glimpse into the character's this way.

A bit tragic. Not without its predictability.

Highly Recommend!

4.5/5 stars(RabidReads.com)Zombie Apocalypse anyone? This is book two of this series, although there is also a novella, Midway, making it three stories so far that I have read recently. I love finding a series that I want to read back to back, and that’s pretty much what I have been doing with these reads.

The Harvesting introduced us to Layla, a kick butt heroine, that has been leading what is now a small group of people from her hometown, into the world that is left after the zombies took over. In Midway, we met Cricket, a carnival worker that is also caught up in this new world. With this installment, the two heroines meet and band together. Cricket and Tristan now have a home base in a small college that is surrounded by a locked wall. Tristan is one of the more interesting characters in these books. He looks human, but no, not so much. I really liked his character in both books he’s featured in, although he was pretty different in Midway, than he is in this book. Of course, Layla’s new love, Jamie, is along for the ride. The rest of the college complex is made up of the few remaining friends of Layla’s and Jamie’s, the fortune teller Vella, who is first introduced in Midway, college students and other locals, and a doctor that is conducting experiments to find a cure for the “flu” that caused the zombies.

I appreciated the way the author filled this zombie world with other supernatural characters, ones that no one was aware of until the world changes. Vampires, and not the good kind, shape shifting Fae like characters that cause major problems for humans, and “earth” people that are trying to save humankind from those that want to end them.

As with the other installments, this is not a feel good read. Instead, it’s an exciting life or death thrill ride. Also, as before, not everyone survives. I must admit that one of the deaths in particular, pretty much blind sighted me. But this author is really not afraid to go there and that keeps this series from being cookie cutter, in any way. This one also features a pretty major cliffhanger, which I am not usually a fan of, but it didn’t bother me that much. Maybe. I am still thinking on that!

As with the other installments, I highly recommend this book to mature young adults and adults, due to the amount of violence, sexual situations, and language. Not to mention the all around creepiness factor. Next up is Witch Wood, another novella set in this same world, but with a new main character, although the blurb says it can standalone.

Layla and her family and friends exit the labyrinth and find themselves in thick woods. The other side was to be safe for them all. What they find is far from it. Layla does come across new allies in the world of the walking dead. Now she needs to choose who she thinks she can trust, after learning she placed her trust in others to easily. There's an ancient power at work now. Layla and her crew starts to question, why would spirits of the land help them, or hinder them?

I've continued listening to the series as I love Kristin's voice acting. She slips into each and every character, becoming them in voice. She does the breathless moments when in dialog. She does several accents through the story for Cricket, Tristan, and many others along with deeper and different tones for male and females. All this makes it so easy for the listener to differentiate the characters. I love how Kristin knows what words to put an accent on, to show there is more meaning behind the word.

Layla is still strong for her people. But she's starting to break down. She's realized too late that she's trusted to easily. And her friends have paid for the mistake in blood. Not everyone, or being, is good inside. Now Layla must figure out who she can trust in this dark world of death. I feel for her as she's slipped into the role of leader for her strength and insight from the spirits. Those that are left from Hamletville look to her for guidance on if they stay or go.

This book brings Cricket and those from her novella together with Layla and her friends from Hamletville. Cricket is a sweet yet determined young lady. I really enjoy her outlook on things and her strength. We do learn about what we suspected of Tristan. Well, part of it. We'll most likely learn more as we come out the portal in book three. Seeing Vella the tarot reader interact with Layla, the few short times we do, I got excited. I would like to see them talk more. I don't know, I think it's a feel I got when Layla was with her grandmother. I just loved the feel of the old blood in them.

We also come to meet new characters. A few of which I enjoyed and love and a few that I'm very suspicious of. One new character is a Doctor. Dr. Gustav is working hard to figure out what happened to cause the undead in people and she thinks she can cure it!

Melanie walks us through the next expansion of the world here. We saw the undead and vampires in the first book. We learn about the thin places and fog here, along with some of the natural spirits. Each growth of the world in each book is placed to explain and grow the stories. We even start to get a look into why this is happening along with how. And, to Layla and a few other observers, there is a difference in the undead as well. Which kind of made me start to feel for the undead. *gasp*

I know the characters are in constant trouble with the danger of the undead and vampires, but it doesn't feel high strung fast. I really like this. People need rest, even if not 100% trusting of those around them. That comes through yet the stories moving to keep us interested. The grown of the world helps balance the pacing and action. Not to fast. Not to slow. Just right.

Melanie did the one thing I feared she'd do from the moment we walked into Claddagh-Basel college. I'm not telling you what it was. You have to figure it out yourself. But it did leave me NEEDING book 3! lol!

Really can't wait to continue in this series with the next novella and novel!

The Shadow Aspect had plenty of blood, gore and action from start to finish!

A few years back I reviewed my first book for Melanie Karsak which was The Harvesting. I loved the world that she created and was excited to see what become of the characters. I recently read Midway, which gave me an insight to new characters being introduced in The Shadow Aspect and what would happen once these two groups finally merged together. Layla’s group from The Harvesting ran into danger at the end of the book, and that continued into this book. Cricket’s group had found shelter in a small town and seem to be doing well, despite the current danger.

Layla felt the pressure from her decisions and often doubted what needed to be done, but she was still a great leader and listened to her instincts. I liked seeing her ‘sense’ develop throughout this book and how she could see some differences with certain ‘dead’ people. Her relationship with Jamie strengthened, but he felt a little absent at times.

Cricket showed just how resilient she could be and didn’t back down from any challenge set out for her. Her attraction to Tristan seems to be mutual, but she’s unsure why he won’t make a move. Tristan is a bit secretive, hiding things from Cricket and I had a hunch as to what one of them was.

The Shadow Aspect had plenty of blood, gore and action from start to finish; both groups suffered significant losses and there were threats at every turn. There were zombie’s galore and appearances from other dangers that were discovered in the first book. I liked how they all joined forces and worked well as a team. There were a lot of new characters introduced and I had icky feelings about some of them and wasn’t sure whether they were to be trusted or not. I enjoyed the alternating perspectives from both Layla and Cricket and felt that having both perspectives fleshed out the plot a little bit more. That ending though… argh! I hope I don’t have to wait too long for more!
