WINNER OF THE 2015 EDGAR AWARD FOR BEST NOVEL
In a mega-stakes, high-suspense race against time, three of the most unlikely and winning heroes Stephen King has ever created try to stop a lone killer from blowing up thousands.

In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes.

In another part of town, months later, a retired cop named Bill Hodges is still haunted by the unsolved crime. When he gets a crazed letter from someone who self-identifies as the “perk” and threatens an even more diabolical attack, Hodges wakes up from his depressed and vacant retirement, hell-bent on preventing another tragedy.

Brady Hartsfield lives with his alcoholic mother in the house where he was born. He loved the feel of death under the wheels of the Mercedes, and he wants that rush again. Only Bill Hodges, with a couple of highly unlikely allies, can apprehend the killer before he strikes again. And they have no time to lose, because Brady’s next mission, if it succeeds, will kill or maim thousands.

Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.

From Booklist
King’s interest in crime fiction was evident from his work for the Hard Case Crime imprint—The Colorado Kid (2005) and Joyland (2013)—but this is the most straight-up mystery-thriller of his career. Retired Detective Bill Hodges is overweight, directionless, and toying with the idea of ending it all when he receives a jeering letter from the Mercedes Killer, who ran down 23 people with a stolen car but evaded Hodges’ capture. With the help of a 17-year-old neighbor and one victim’s sister (who, in proper gumshoe style, Hodges quickly beds), Hodges begins to play cat-and-mouse with the killer through a chat site called Under Debbie’s Blue Umbrella. Hodges’ POV alternates with that of the troubled murderer, a Norman Bates–like ice-cream-truck driver named Brady Hartfield. Both Hodges and Hartfield make mistakes, big ones, leaving this a compelling, small-scale slugfest that plays out in cheery suburban settings. This exists outside of the usual Kingverse (Pennywise the Clown is referred to as fictive); add that to the atypical present-tense prose, and this feels pretty darn fresh. Big, smashing climax, too. HIGH-DEMAND BACKSTORY: No need to rev the engine here; this baby will rocket itself out of libraries with a loud squeal of the tires. --Daniel Kraus

Review
"Pays off exuberantly . . . Surprising and invigorating." (The New York Times)

"Classic Stephen King. Creepy, yet realistic characters that get under your skin and stay there, a compelling story that twists and turns at breakneck speed, and delightful prose that, once again, proves that one of America’s greatest natural storytellers is also one of its finest writers." (Associated Press)

"On one level, Mr. Mercedes is an expertly crafted example of the classic race-against-the-clock thriller. On another, it is a novel of depth and character enriched throughout by the grace notes King provides in such seemingly effortless profusion. It is a rich, resonant, exceptionally readable accomplishment by a man who can write in whatever genre he chooses." (Washington Post)

“Think of Mr. Mercedes as an AC/DC song: uncluttered, chugging with momentum, and a lot harder to pull off than it looks. . . . King has written a hot rod of a novel, perfect for a few summer days at the pool. Mercedes-Benz commands drivers to demand ‘the best or nothing.’ In pop-fiction terms, that motto still applies to Stephen King, too. With apologies to AC/DC, the highway to hell never felt so fun.” (Christian Science Monitor)

“A taut, suspenseful race-against-time book . . . [King is] in reliably fine form.” (The New York Times)

"A taut, calibrated thriller . . . The majority of the book is merciless and unforgiving, and the scariest thing about it is how plausible the whole scenario is." (Miami Herald)

“The nerve-shredding denouement is vintage King—a pulse-pounding race against time . . .” (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)

“A full-throttle sprint to the finish; the last 80 pages cannot be doled out over multiple reading sessions. You'll have to swallow them all in a single gulp.” (Sarasota Herald Tribune)

“A literary Van de Graaff generator: tightly paced and parsed with dynamic dialogue and traumatic twists.” (Columbus Dispatch)

“An oh-so-dark mystery that never shuts the door on love, loss and, possibly, redemption.” (Cleveland Plain Dealer)

“No one can create a villain quite like King. . . . [A]ll the elements come together in a very public, potentially explosive finale (with a surprising post script). King fans may find themselves furiously turning pages long into the night.” (Seattle Times)

“Along book that doesn’t feel like one. King’s pacing is perfect here . . . [Y]ou should read Mr. Mercedes. You’ll be checking your automobile’s back seat for months, if not years.” (BookReporter.com)

“A fast-paced whodunit.” (Esquire)

“King excels in his disturbing portrait of Brady, a genuine monster in ordinary human form who gives new meaning to the phrase‘the banality of evil.” (Publisher's Weekly)

“The most straight-up mystery-thriller of [King’s] career…Pretty darn fresh.” (Booklist)

“Nicely dark, never predictable and altogether entertaining.” (Kirkus)

“King deftly takes elements of hard-boiled mysteries and puts a fresh spin on them.” (USA Today)

“A showdown between good and evil that characterizes the best of King's work, regardless of genre.” (Los Angeles Times)

“King may have left out the supernatural in Mr. Mercedes, but his gifts for creating thoroughly believable characters and thrumming suspense are in full play. He keeps raising the stakes and ratcheting up the violence, and just when you think everything is settled there's one spine-icing little turn on the very last page.” (Tampa Bay Times)

“King creates such vivid characters—people you can picture yourself drinking a beer with or inviting over for lunch. So when he puts them in great peril, and that includes Jerome’s family and pet dog and the Mercedes’ owner’s family, it’s a race against time . . .” (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)

“Hartfield is sensitive, sympathetic and one of King’s most realistic characters. He is a lot like Norman Bates from Psycho, in the worst ways imaginable. You can add Hartfield to the list of great King villains, alongside the shape-shifting monster Pennywise from It and the hypnotic vampire Kurt Barlow from Salem’s Lot.” (Boston Herald)

“A fast-paced cat-and-mouse game between Hodges, the motley group of unlikely heroes that he assembles, and the Mercedes Killer.” (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

“As always, Stephen King draws very real people and scenes straight out of life as we know it . . .” (Raleigh News & Observer)

“A trimmer-than-usual King, but that doesn't mean he skimps on the suspense and spine-tingling chills.” (People Magazine)

“With Mr.Mercedes, [King] demonstrates that he can still rock a pure genre novel like nobody’s business. . . . a thrilling example of King’s boundless imagination.” (Bookpage)

“A war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.” (Cemetery Dance)

“. . . barrels toward a memorable conclusion. King’s work has almost always gotten lost in translation on the big screen, but his tense, propulsive, ultra-fast-paced climax here seems like it was written with the movie in mind.” (Onion AV Club)

a constant reader

If you want aliens, cats that come back or creepy clowns, this is not the book for you. If you love well written King storys, it is. If you enjoyed Shawshank and Stand by Me ect., this book will make you happy. 11/22/63 was good, but still used the supernatural to move the story, here it's just people. I think King is at his best when he uses the characters that always feel real.

Enjoy a good story? Tired of the usual crap? Read this.

Stephen King Never Fails to Evolve & Amaze!
By Mathlete
I love this new and improved Stephen King 2.0. I am not going to rehash the publisher's summary or go too deep into the plot as some consider writing about ANY plot points as spoilers. There are no spoilers here, just my opinion of the type of readers that would enjoy Mr. Mercedes as much as I did.

In my opinion, there are three major buckets of Stephen King fans,

A) Readers that love his earlier works that featured densely written supernatural stories that kindled the type of mental terrorism that innovated the genre. Novels that are deep in character and plot line development to the point they easily reach the level of an 800+ page epic. (See: The Stand)

B) Readers that love his lighter works that loan themselves to the psychological thrillers of the physical and mortal world that are so terrorizing, they wish it was due to a supernatural entity. Novels that don't have as much depth (relatively speaking) or number of characters, but still great reads. (See: Misery)

C) Readers who just enjoy to be entertained and terrorized by the master of horror, regardless of the believability of the plot's premise or source of the fear.

For the hardcore fans that reside in segment A, I think they will feel Mr. Mercedes is a well written novel, but a rare miss by the author they have grown to love. That would be an unfortunate mis-characterization if readers think Mr. Mercedes is a miss due to the lack of page turning details developing voluminous characters and minuscule details of their surroundings. The development of the main characters in Mr. Mercedes was more that enough to keep us engaged and on our toes with a truly unpredictable plot.

Protagonist Bill Hodges is definitely not a sympathetic character nor a character that can be simply introduced to the reader. We are taken through his very tough existence to see him as a loathing underdog and the city's only hope to stop the sadistic plans of the antagonist, Brady Hartsfield. Also, King does a great job still making use and giving depth to the small supporting cast which includes Hodges sidekick, Jermome, Brady's mother Deborah, and Jannelle Patterson - the sister of the woman whose Mercedes was used by Brady in the attack that starts it all.

Fans in segments B and C will definitely feel the same heart-racing thrill that they have come to know from Stephen King. Mr. Mercedes is totally unpredictable, fast starting, and interlaced with many newer 21st century references that many will find refreshing. Mr. Mercedes lends more to a thriller where a lot of the plot plays out through the web - a new twist that makes me love Stephen King 2.0 even more.

This was a great novel that is much easier to read than many of Stephen King's earlier works. It will definitely not be a disappointment for fans who are open to Kin's expanding range of finding new, and more 21st century ways to keep us horrified, entertained, and guessing. I definitely recommend this to all King fans and those who may be new to his books.

Excellent!

King negates a heavy hand for an authentic, subtly crafted story. Mr. Mercedes offers dual perspective, enabling a more interesting plot development for King's group of unlikely heroes. A fascinating adventure!

From Publishers Weekly
Starred Review. Matsumoto's nearly European art paired with Japanese manga pacing have made him a fan favorite for years, and he won an Eisner for Tekkonkincreet. In GoGo Monster, he effectively blurs the line between reality, imagination, and madness. Yuki is an outcast elementary school student who feels the presence of invisible monsters at his school. Are Yuki's monsters real or imaginary? The old school groundskeeper has reasons to believe Yuki's monsters do exist, and they seem to influence the level of disciplinary problems at school. While we never see Yuki's monsters outside of the depictions scribbled on his desk, readers share Yuki's other hallucinations. In one troubling scene, his teacher's and classmates' heads are replaced with flowers. Matsumoto brings out the surreal moments in everyday life, such as when Yuki stares into raindrops clinging to his umbrella at the distorted image of his face, replicated a hundred times. The high-contrast contour drawings are heavily influenced by French artists Moebius and Enki Bilal, with occasional nods to the psychedelic works of Milton Glaser and Peter Max. Despite occasionally experimental storytelling, the story is very accessible: Viz has faithfully reproduced the beautiful Japanese edition of the book, complete with red-trimmed pages of exceptional quality and a colorful cardboard sleeve. From Booklist
Although seinen—manga for men—have been published in the U.S. for years, none have taken hold in the marketplace, despite critical praise. This gorgeous presentation of Eisner Award winner Matsumoto’s work deserves to capture more attention from the older readership it hopes to win. In the original graphic novel, third-grader Yuki Tachibana must choose between his imaginary world, in which faces appear in raindrops and unseen beings dance to the music of his harmonica, and the real world of mocking classmates and potential new friends. Taking place over the course of a single school year, Yuki’s struggle to maintain a hold on his dream world turns dark and frightening the closer he gets to new classmate Mokoto. Matsumoto’s scribbly style works perfectly for the story in the childlike way it depicts Yuki’s imaginings and renders the faces of his tormentors as abstractions to intensify Yuki’s sense of alienation. Matsumoto’s examination of an often forgotten period of childhood is powerful, heartbreaking, yet ultimately reassuring. --Eva Volin

First Matsumoto book i read. Don't pass by
By Abdulahi Mohamoud
This was the first matsumoto work i read and it got me hooked to read anything else made by him because it is so different from any other manga i read. Now this can turn some people off because they are not into alternative manga but you should give it a try anyway. i wasn't into this kind of manga when i first got it and it took me a few read throughs to understand it all but the end result was me loving it and now Matsumoto being one of my favorite mangakas. for first time matsumoto readers: don't judge too harshly on matsumotos different art style or weird and abstract way of storytelling. just try to appreciate it for what it's trying to do.

11 O'Clock Comics' Fantastic Recommendation and Mine
By SEA-S
In it's year end wrap up for 2009, 11 O'Clock Comics gave a very favorable review of Gogo Monster and based upon that I dropped it into my cart here. Thanks guys, I owe you one. Judging from the volume of reviews on Amazon, I would never have seen this otherwise and would have been sorely deprived of a piece of work that has stunned me aesthetically and engaged me on multiple literary levels. (Yes, literary levels in a manga.)

I've owned this book for about ten days and am about to start my third reread. Once is not enough to catch the nuances of the story and the detail of the art. After the second reading, I literally dreamed of this book. The last book that I can remember dreaming of was Charlotte's Web and that was 30+ years ago.

You'll need to look at the other reviews (or better yet) buy and read the book yourself, to get details regarding the plot. I want to share the pure experience of this book. What 11 O'Clock did not mention was the sheer tactile pleasure of opening and reading this work. The image above is actually a slip cover. The outside cover of the work is a colourful splash of imagination. More interesting, however, is the imprint on the outside edges of the pages. While initially, this looks like it is a red dye only, there is actually a subtle print within the reds that ties to the overall design. More than that, the edge of the pages are stuck together slightly and you have to pay attention to each page as you turn them.

The overall experience of reading this work (or mine at least) was a rememberance of things past: childhood dreams, the life altering moments of small experiences, the texture and touch of a long lost classic, and the joy of having to think of more than the words on the page to gain the most of the work. In this sense, Gogo Monster ranks in my list of some of the best literature that I read in college (thank you again Dean Grissom A Novel Approach to Life) and works of art that I have traveled thousand of miles to see and enjoy.

Take you time with this one. Every square inch of it is worth savoring.

The Bad War: The Truth NEVER Taught About World War II, by M S King

245 Pages / 500 Illustrations During the 75 years that have now passed since the end of the grand history-altering event known as World War II, only a single narrative of the great conflict has been heard. It is a story which the architects of the New World Order have implanted, no, POUNDED into the minds of three subsequent generations. Every medium of mass indoctrination has been harnessed to the task of training the obedient masses as to what the proper view of this event should be. Academia, news media, public education, book publishing, TV documentaries, Hollywood films, clergymen and politicians of every stripe all sing the same song. You know the familiar lyrics: “Led by Adolf Hitler; Germany, Italy and Japan tried to enslave the planet. The “good guys” of the “world community”, led by Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) and Winston Churchill, banded together and stopped them. Literally, not a day seems to pass without some sort of media reference to this incomplete and simplistic narrative; a story which oh-so-conveniently ignores the previous decades of critical history leading up to World War II, omits vital information from the actual war years, and outright fabricates lie after lie after lie. Indeed, the “official story” amounts to a manufactured mendacity of such mountainous dimensions that the human mind will have a hard time processing the actual truth of the grand event, no matter how compelling the case may be. Isn’t it time you heard a different tune; at least for your consideration? Haven't you ever at least been curious as to what "the other side of the World War II story" was? If so, you ought to have a look at 'The Bad War', a heavily illustrated epic timeline that will transport you back to the mid 1800's; and then lead you on an exciting "you are there" journey right up through both World War I and World War II. Well-written, entertaining, and meticulously documented, 'The Bad War' is unique for its ability to condense so much real history into just 245 attention-riveting, illustration-rich pages. But do be forewarned. Your worldview may never be the same.

About the Author
M. S. King is a private investigative journalist and researcher based in the New York City area. A 1987 graduate of Rutgers University, King's subsequent 30 year career in Marketing & Advertising has equipped him with a unique perspective when it comes to understanding how "public opinion" is indeed scientifically manufactured. Madison Ave marketing acumen combines with 'City Boy' instincts to make M.S. King one of the most tenacious detectors of "things that don’t add up" in the world today. Says King of his admitted quirks, irreverent disdain for "conventional wisdom", and uncanny ability to ferret out and weave together important data points that others miss: "Had Sherlock Holmes been an actual historical personage, I would have been his reincarnation." King is also the author of The War Against Putin: What the Government-Media Complex Isn’t Telling You About Russia. King’s other interests include: the animal kingdom, philosophy, chess, cooking, literature and history (with emphasis on events of the late 19th through the 20th centuries).

I was totally overwhelmed when I first read The Bad War in PDF-format
By The Truth Must Out
I was totally overwhelmed when I first read The Bad War in PDF-format. My immediate thought was that this is so easy to understand so I must send it to all my friends that I think need to know the truth about what happened. I could not do it without a book. To my great joy The Bad War was due to come out in print and even better in this extended version which covers even more areas of importance. I cannot state enough how impressed I am about the validity of facts and attention to detail this book has but still so easy to read.

This is a book with 300 short and informative texts accompanied by illustrative pictures to each text. It covers all the phases starting from 1848 when 50 or so controlled small “revolutions” wreak havoc in Europe, causing thousands of innocent deaths and ends with the Nuremberg trials with its predetermined orchestrated outcome that has nothing to do with a real “trial” but rather to put blame on the side that lost the war.

I have read many books on the World Wars but no one with this unique concept. I cannot other than give this book the highest of my recommendations.

It’s Time to Open our Eyes
By Sebastián
Sometimes real events, real history, seems like a fantasy.
That is the sole purpose of the elite that controls the planet; create an imaginary world so people can't really determine what is real or unreal.
The whole industry of entertainment collaborates in this determination, powerful and occult members and famous people work hand to hand to fulfill this project.
People have been taught since childhood lies, half-truths about world history, scholar texts come from the same elite that controls the world and sell lies.
If you really want to know about some events in World War 2, or you want to acquire a different perspective about the conflict, you have to read this book.
It’s time to open our eyes to reality, it's time to confront the liars that still control the world we live in.

Design to Grow: How Coca-Cola Learned to Combine Scale and Agility (and How You Can Too), by David Butler, Linda Tischler

Expert advice from Coca-Cola’s vice president of Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Learn how Coca-Cola uses design to grow its business by combining the advantages of scale with the agility to respond to fast-changing market conditions.

In today’s world, every company is at risk of having a “Kodak Moment”—watching its industry and the competitive advantages it has developed over years, even decades, vanish overnight. The reason? An inability to adapt quickly to new business realities. Established companies are at risk, but it’s no easier being an agile startup, because most of those fail due to their inability to scale. Tomorrow’s business winners—regardless of size or industry—will be the ones that know how to combine scale with agility.

In Design to Grow, a Coca-Cola senior executive shares both the successes and failures of one of the world’s largest companies as it learns to use design to be both agile and big. In this rare and unprecedented behind-the-scenes look, David Butler and senior Fast Company editor, Linda Tischler, use plain language and easy-to-understand case studies to show how this works at Coca-Cola—and how other companies can use the same approach to grow their business. This book is a must-read for managers inside large corporations as well as entrepreneurs just getting started.

How the design by purpose process can create value while driving both scale and agility
By Robert Morris
What is "design on purpose"? According to David Butler and Linda Tischler in one of several summaries of key points (Pages 209-211), design on purpose involves five separate but interdependent initiatives:

1. Connect everything you design to your brands. Firms such as Apple ("think different"), Nike ("personal empowerment"J, and BMW ("the ultimate driving machine"), clarify the brand idea/proposition for each brand, in plain speak, and use it to drive their design process in their briefs, concepts, and executions. So must you, also.

2. Clearly define visual identity systems for your brands and use them to connect all of your communication tools. "To get the most impact and scale, we should clearly define the visual identity system (brand or promotion look and feel) at the strategy stage and then use it to connect all of our communication tools together to create a total brand experience."

3. Create design management tools and guiding principles to ensure a high level of quality across your system. "We need to create clarity for our brands by creating tools that make good decisions easy and bad decisions difficult."

4. Use design to build more consistency between activation programs, licensing, and promotions (both locally and globally). "We can get much more efficiency and create more impact by thinking more holistically about design. The good news is that sometimes we are very strategic with our design. The bad news is that often it is almost by chance and never connected to anything else."

5. Link your existing, regional design teams with corporate to achieve better follow-through. "If we linked our design teams together to create a design network, we could leverage our agencies, assets and knowledge much more efficiently and consistently....We could and should be [begin italics] the [end italics] company that other companies use as [begin italics] their [end italics] standard for great design. We need to design on purpose."

Many (most?) business leaders seldom think about linking purpose (the real meaning behind everything that an organization does) with design. Almost 20 years ago in The Fifth Discipline, Peter Senge observed, "Systems thinking is a discipline for seeing wholes. It is a framework for seeing interrelationships rather than things, for seeing patterns of change rather than static snapshots." Most organizations need to redesign how they are designed. Stated another way, their leaders must think differently about how they think.

The design with purpose process really can create substantial value when scale and agility are combined. This is precisely the "secret sauce" of almost any high-growth, high-profit organization. Consider these observations by Butler and Tischman:

"If you're a big, established company [such as Coca-Cola], you've got scale, which enables you to expand almost effortlessly from Boston to Bangalore. Over time, you've built up powerful assets -- expertise, brands, customers, distribution, channels, relationships -- that most startups could only dream about. Scale is not your problem. Your problem is agility -- you must be smarter, faster, leaner than the startup that's got your industry in its crosshairs -- targeted for disruption...If you're a startup, you've got a different problem. You've got agility, nothing but agility. Trying new business models, repositioning your company, developing new features, or even whole new products within days -- things big companies can only dream about -- are not your problem.

"For you, building the right team, deciding which metrics matter, acquiring customers, and securing funding are what keep you up at night. Scale is your problem -- doing what it takes to expand your startup into new geographies, including the land of profitability, is your challenge. That's why most startups fail -- only a dispiriting one out of ten succeeds."

These are among the dozens of passages of greatest interest and value to me, also listed to suggest the scope of Butler and Tischler's coverage:

o Scale and Agility, Coca Cola and Design, and The Invisible Drives the Visible (Pages 2-8)
o Redesigning Design (12-13)
o What Is Design? (16-24)
o Systems and Design (24-27)
o Simplify, Standardize, and Integrate (43-51)
o Context Is Everything (63-65)
o Sometimes, More Is More (67-72)
o Everyone Needs Agility (72-86)
o The Upstarts Called Startups (95-98)
o Fourth Era of Innovation (99-100)
o Disrupt or Be Disrupted (104-107)
o Shark-Bite Problems (124-125)
o Built for Speed (135-138)
o Learning by Doing (143-144)
o Leaner (159-164)
o Catching the Net Wave (188-194)

Whatever an organization's size and nature may be, its leaders need to use the principles, techniques, and resources of design thinking to combine both scale and agility, at all levels and in all areas, throughout the given enterprise. How? Just about everything they need to know is provided by David Butler and Linda Tischler in this book.

Essential Tool for In-house Design Leaders
By Adam B
As the leader of a design team in a CPG company, I found Design to Grow to be extremely inspiring. It has armed me with numerous examples from the experiences of one of the world’s most admired brands (Coca-Cola) on how they used design thinking to scale globally and yet remain agile. David brings to life many of the common challenges that designers face (especially in-house creative groups), but that we sometimes struggle to articulate. He outlines simple steps of Simplify, Standardize & Integrate and how these helped him achieve success over the last decade at Coca-Cola.

After reading Design to Grow, I gave copies to key Executives and other design leaders in the company. One Executive came to me later to discuss how fascinated they were with the concept that design thinking is not exclusive to a small group of “specialists”, but rather something that can be applied by anyone in an organization to solve almost any challenge. “Design is not just decoration, but a way of thinking that connects disparate elements to develop a solution.” For designers looking to champion design thinking within an organization, this book will be an essential tool in your cause.

Must read for every business leader!
By Ali akbar
Managers across the world spend their entire careers figuring out success formulae, wondering what strategy to apply where to achieve scale and then you come across David and Lindas simplified manual using Coca Cola as a shared example of virtue. “Design to Grow” is a refreshing take on the growth trajectory of Coca Cola; the authors made the strategy entice the premise of every example shared. ‘Simplify, Standardize and Integrate’ is such an introspective means to an end, ensuring that all complex business models are fragments of a labyrinth that translates into profit and eventually success.

David uses a very pragmatic approach to justify the strategic thought of agility, speed and scale throughout the references in his book. By constantly referring back to best practices and syndicate examples, the book is an applicable and most importantly encouraging toolkit for startups, middle managers and business leaders that need to strategize. Given Coca Cola’s global footprint of reaching over 200 countries, 500 different brands and over 1.9 Billion servings a day one can easily get deceived by a presumably grand design but the beauty of “Design to Grow” is the simplicity, the innate sense of a clear vision and a strategic approach to ascertain goals.

Topics:

• Mathematics, calculus, differential equations

• Covariance and correlation matrices. Linear algebra

• Financial instruments: options, bonds, swaps, forwards, futures

• C++, algorithms, data structures

• Monte Carlo simulations. Numerical methods

• Probability. Stochastic calculus

• Brainteasers

The use of quantitative methods and programming skills in all areas of finance, from trading to risk management, has grown tremendously in recent years, and accelerated through the financial crisis and with the advent of the big data era. A core body of knowledge is required for successfully interviewing for a quant type position. The challenge lies in the fact that this knowledge encompasses finance, programming (in particular C++ programming), and several areas of mathematics (probability and stochastic calculus, numerical methods, linear algebra, and advanced calculus). Moreover, brainteasers are often asked to probe the ingenuity of candidates.

This book contains over 150 questions covering this core body of knowledge. These questions are frequently and currently asked on interviews for quantitative positions, and cover a vast spectrum, from C++ and data structures, to finance, brainteasers, and stochastic calculus.

The answers to all of these questions are included in the book. These answers are written in the same very practical vein that was used to select the questions: they are complete, but straight to the point, as they would be given in an interview.

A wonderful little book!
By Besselian Elements
This is a wonderful little book! It fits in your pocket, so you can easily carry it with you and study it even during a crowded subway ride.
After a warm-up chapter, all questions presented in the book are just stated in a long list, with no accompanying solution after each question. So there is no temptation to immediately read the answer if you get stuck. This is a very thoughtful editorial choice and it fits very well with the aim of the book to train you for interviews.
Subsequent chapters provide detailed solutions to each question. Topics covered are: Calculus, Linear Algebra, Financial Instruments, C++ and Data structure, Monte Carlo and Numerical methods, Probability and Stochastic Calculus, Brain Teasers. The selection of topics fits very well with the kind of questions you will be likely to encounter. And the choice of questions for each topic is well balanced.
Study this book and you will have a pretty good idea of what to expect during quant interviews.
